The City of Barrie will see a 2.9% increase in property taxes this year.
Council passed the budget last night – which will see the average home owner paying an extra $100 a year.
Mayor Jeff Lehman says a number of roads projects are planned this year.
“Ferndale Drive, the last missing link between Tiffin and Dunlop. Morrow Road, which is probably the road in the worst condition in the entire city. Both of those roads will get done in 2016 – and Mapleview Drive East from Huronia Road to Country Lane.”
Mayor Lehman says it took council over 6 hours to whittle down the tax levy increase from 3.6% to 2.9%.
He says 1% of the tax increase is going toward infrastructure – which he adds is a direct answer to residents calling for road repairs.
