Mayor Jeff Lehman says growth will be smarter, perhaps a little slower, with a better balance between suburban growth, and urban areas, including the downtown which has always been high on his list of priorities.
“More people living in and around our downtown is more customers for the shops and services. It all works together to strengthen and improve the core area of our city.”
Mayor Lehman delivers his State of the City address during his annual luncheon yesterday.
He says despite major international economic problems like plunging world markets, dropping oil prices and the free falling loonie, Barrie appears to be in pretty good shape now and moving forward.
Lehman proudly pointed to 5-thousand new jobs created in the city over the past 5 years, and a 32 per cent decrease in crime.
