Back in December, New York City restaurants put in place a requirement that restaurants have to post a picture of a salt shaker on their menus next to any food item contains more salt, by itself, than you’re supposed to ingest in an entire day.
Public reaction seems to be lukewarm at best with most restaurant customers saying that they still just order whatever they want without even paying attention to the warning. Enforcement of the ‘salt shaker’ idea has been put on hold for now.
This is not the first attempt that New York City has made at trying to get their residents healthier.
They’ve banned trans fats in restaurant food….they also unsuccessfully tried to put in a limit on the size of cups used to serve pop at restaurants.
They also require chain restaurants to post calorie information on their menus.
I’ll be honest – I don’t think the salt shaker idea can hurt anyone – I know most will probably ignore it but if it helps even a few, isn’t it worth it?
