This is an interesting topic. The restaurant industry has been making headlines lately for inapproriate dress codes. Female servers were told to wear certain heights of heels, shortness of skirts and even tightness of clothes. This is obviously completely wrong but if a server does stand up for herself she faces losing her job or getting fewer shifts. Ideally, yes everyone male or female has the same dress code and how they choose to present themselves would be up to them. If you want to wear that short skirt because you feel that you’ll earn more tips good for you. If you want to wear a more modest and comfortable ensemble that should be your choice.
What do you think? Here’s the original news story.
Labour groups and some restaurant owners say the Ontario Human Rights Commission's recent report on sexualized dress codes is not entirely in touch with the realities of life in the industry. They agree with the commission's assertion that restaurants and bars should never force female staff to wear skimpy clothing as part of a work uniform.
