I was at Walmart here in Barrie today – the north end one on Bayfield Street.
I saw a sign at the entrance that announced a change that’s coming at the end of the month.
No, it wasn’t about them charging for the bags – yes, that is coming – just not sure when. But this was about how starting at the end of this month, they are going to start doing what some other stores have done – and make it so that if you want to use a cart, you’ll have to put a quarter in before taking it.
Now, if you’ve never been to one of those stores that ‘charges’ for carts, you don’t actually end up paying for it – you get the quarter back when you return the cart.
I understand why stores do this.
They don’t like their carts disappearing in the neighbourhood – and they also like it when people return them to the cart corrals. The good thing is that if people return carts, they’re less likely to roll around the parking lot and hit cars.
So, what do you think of the idea of ‘charging’ for carts?
