When I was in high school, there was always a small group of students who would skip a few classes…there were also groups that would spend more time out of school than in it.
I remember that I skipped one class in my entire time in high school and I felt so bad about it that I never did it again.
Over the weekend, news broke that Barrie Police put a 16 year old girl in jail overnight for being constantly absent from class.
They did that because of the Education Act which says that anyone between 6 and 18 years of age must be in school. The teenager, who skipped school on several occasions, didn’t show up for a court date she had about some earlier absences. So, she was arrested Friday night and was in jail until Saturday and could be seen by a judge.
