Have you ever been to a ‘meet and greet?’
If you have never heard of this, it’s when you go to a concert / show and either before or after the show, you meet the performer backstage. Often, meeting them involves a chance to get a picture of yourself with them – and sometimes, an autograph and a quick little chat.
I’ve been to a few of these and sometimes, they are like assembly lines – you’re in and out sooo quickly… other times, the celebrity takes their time and wants to talk for a few minutes.
So, why do I bring up “Meet & Greets?” – because Justin Beiber has put them in the news. I know some people just can’t stand the guy but I thought that his recent decision was kind of interesting.
He says that he will no longer be holding meet and greets before any of his upcoming concerts. He says that although he enjoys meeting his fans, he says he afterwards, he feels very drained and filled with so much of other people’s spiritual energy that he’s unhappy.
He says his priority is putting on a good show and the meet and greets keep him from doing that.
I understand why celebrities wouldn’t like these ‘meet & greets.’ They can be very awkward and you never know how people will behave. But sometimes, you have to ‘suck it up’ and ‘do your job.’
What do you think? Should celebrities be accessible to fans for meet and greets?
