Alberta has declared a state of emergency due to the intense, massive wildfire happening in Fort McMurray.
Municipal Affairs minister Danielle Larivee says this will help Alberta to ask for additional resources from outside the province.
Evacuation centres are filling up by the hour as thousands flee from the city .
Officials are saying the raging wildfire is far from over.
Scott Long from the Alberta Emergency Management says the wildfire has been kept from the downtown area due to the heroic efforts of firefighters.
100 firefighters from Ontario are heading to the town to help fight the blaze.
Alberta Premier Rachel Notley estimates the fire has so far destroyed 1,600 homes.
