Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP Detachment Commander John Trude did his last shift today before retirement.
Taking over in August will be Inspector Mary Shannon currently from the Northeast Region of the OPP.
She says she wants to continue what Trude has begun.
She’d like to focus on mental health issues and develop more community partners to assist.
A firm believer in community based policing, Shannon says she will soon move to the area with her family.
One of the new challenges of policing is dealing with social media both in keeping ahead of criminals who know all the tricks and in making sure the agency is using all the tools effectively.
Shannon’s father was a detachment commander in Northern Ontario.
