The aroma of brown sugar is in the air in Midland this week.
The town is gearing up for an onslaught of butter tart lovers at this weekend’s Best Butter Tart Contest and Festival .
Organizer Angela Bird says there will be 24 judges sampling 150 entries–broken up into traditional recipes and recipes with one unusual ingredient.
That could be bacon or garlic or pineapple or some additive that seems to be the perfect taste match.
There are other vendors on the street offering everything from deep fried butter tarts, to butter tart with cricket!
Despite the fact there will be 100 thousand butter tarts for sale, they could well sell out.
For the first time, there will a shuttle service along the main street all day Saturday.
There are also bands, food trucks and a midway.
