The backyard fireworks displays are considered “high risk” activities by the Fire Department.
Barrie Fire Prevention Officer, Jeff Holmyard, says there are injuries every year.
One designated adult should be put in charge of any fireworks display and onlookers kept at a safe distance.
Most of the injuries are to children who play with those hand held sparklers which can heat up to 16 hundred degrees.
There are also local bylaws requiring that you only set off fireworks within a day or so before or after the actual holiday.
Any displays should be over by midnight.
