A grand total of 43,416 toy and food items were collected by the 16 Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools who took part in the Holiday Cheer Challenge. For the tenth year, Forest Hill Public School’s Global Action team issued the challenge to other schools to collect food, toys, hats, mittens and monetary donations. The items were donated to various organizations around Simcoe County, including local food banks, toy drives and charitable organizations.
“We hold this drive to raise awareness for families in need and to make sure everyone has something to good to eat for the holidays. It is our goal to celebrate the enthusiasm of every school as we strive to support those in need, no matter what community they are from,” said Claire Allen and Julia Christopher, Global Action student leaders from Forest Hill PS.
Adds Megan McColm, Forest Hill PS teacher and event organizer: “To all staff, students, parents and community members who collected, challenged, encouraged, helped – your enthusiasm and dedication to your communities continues to inspire us as you strive to shape your students into active, compassionate members of our communities.”
The SCDSB would also like to acknowledge all schools and learning centres across the county that participated in activities to support families in need this time of year.
