Ryan Lochte had a bit of a scandal during the 2016 Rio Olympics. He and three teammates lied about being robbed at gunpoint in Rio. Ryan was suspended from competing for 10 months and he also lost millions of dollars worth of sponsors.
Now almost a year later, Ryan told ESPN he contemplated taking his own life during the scandal.
“After Rio, I was probably the most hated person in the world. There were a couple of points where I was crying, thinking, ‘If I go to bed and never wake up, fine.”
A reporter asked Ryan if he meant suicide and he nodded ‘yes.’
“I was about to hang up my life entirely. You can be at the all-time high and then the next second the all-time low. I love being at the Olympics, but I’m the opposite of what you’d expect. It’s been that way my whole life.”
