Due to heavy rainfall this year, it’s causing more mosquitoes and a higher risk of the West Nile Virus. Public officials say a bunch of mosquitoes were tested positive for the virus in eastern Mississauga in the Dixie Rd & Lakeshore Road East area.
Homeowners are being asked to turn over any stagnant water on their property as a precaution.
The risk of West Nile can be reduced by wearing bug repellent with DEET, covering exposed skin and avoiding areas with increased mosquito activity.
No other cases have been reported in the rest of the province.
