UPDATE FROM POLICE:
Sad to learn one of the snakes rescued today has died. The other in rough shape but in excellent care at Indian River Reptile Zoo.
This is an ongoing police investigation. We need anyone with information on who owned and/or left the snakes to come forward.
Police say two snakes are headed for a new home after being found abandoned outside a pet store in Newmarket.
York regional Police responded Monday morning after reports of two bins were left outside in the sun.
The Burmese pythons are between six and eight metres long and are illegal under city bylaws.
A reptile sanctuary in Peterborough agreed to take the animals.
