OPP are defending their decision to close a stretch of Highway 400 near Newmarket for 11 hours on Thursday due to a chemical leak.
Numerous drivers took to social media yesterday to complain about being stuck for hours in gridlock on the highway.
It was closed following a collision involving a tractor-trailer carrying flammable cleaning material.
The collision was “relatively minor”, however but the closure was unavoidable because the spill could have been deadly.
The driver of the transport truck has been charged with having an unsecure load.
