Tom Estey, the long time publicist for Jay Thomas confirmed his passing after battling cancer to Entertainment Weekly. He said in a statement:
“Jay Thomas was one of the funniest and kindest men I have had the honor to call both client and friend for 25 years plus. He will be dearly missed by so many.”
Thomas began his show business career in radio and more recently hosted The Jay Thomas Show on SiriusXM. His work on “Murphy Brown” landed him two Emmy Awards in the early 1990’s. He was also cast in “Mork and Mindy”, “Mr. Holland’s Opus” in 1995. His most prominent role was a recurring spot on “Cheers” in the 1980s as Eddie LeBec.
Flowers have been placed beside his star on the Hollywood Walk Of fame.
He is survived by his wife Sally (nee Michelson), and three sons Sam, Jake, and J.T. Harding.
